Cromwell Helmets was founded in 1924. The first product range was focused on colonial helmets for soldiers and workers in the colonies. In 1926 Cromwell started producing its first helmets for motorcyclists. In the early 40s Cromwell created helmets for the Royal Army and leather helmets for the Royal Air Force. In 1952 the Air Ministry asked the company to develop a helmet with a rigid outer cup in nylon and resin, a technology that soon spreaded to the whole motorcycle world. In the 50s and 60s well-known racing drivers such as John Surtees, Giacomo Agostini and Mike Hei lwood wer e wear ing Cromwell helmets (Known as Half Moon type helmets) which started dominating the commercial market.
